What it is
A row, not a bond.
Hand-tied extensions are wefts of hair sewn onto a row of tiny beads anchored in your own hair. Because the weight is spread along the whole row instead of hanging from individual bonds, the set lies flat, moves naturally, and is far kinder to fine hair than most people expect.
That flatness is the reason people choose it. You should be able to put your hair up. A well-placed row disappears in a ponytail, does not bulk out at the nape, and lets you wear your hair the way you actually wear it.
Jillian is IBE certified and hand-tied work is a specialty here, not a side service. Your hair is color-matched to your finished blonde and ordered ahead of the install, so the set blends into your color instead of sitting on top of it.

Install day
Rows are placed for your head shape and parting, then blended into your own hair with a trim so the lengths melt together.

Move-ups every 6 to 8 weeks
As your natural hair grows, rows come down and go back up at the scalp. Skipping these is where damage actually happens.

How much do hand-tied extensions cost?
Extensions involve two things: the install and the hair itself. How much hair your head needs depends on your density, your length, and the look you are after, so both parts are quoted together at your consultation. You will know the full number before anything is ordered.
How long do they last?
The hair itself can last many months to around a year with good care. The install needs a move-up roughly every six to eight weeks, because your own hair keeps growing and the rows have to be repositioned back up toward the scalp.
Do hand-tied extensions damage your hair?
Installed and maintained properly, hand-tied wefts are one of the gentler methods, because the weight is spread across a row instead of pulling on individual bonds. Damage almost always traces back to rows left in too long, a set too heavy for the hair, or skipped move-ups. That is exactly why candidacy gets assessed honestly before anything is installed.
Will they work on fine hair?
Often yes, and fine hair is one of the most common reasons people come in. The key is matching the weight of the set to what your hair can actually carry. If your density will not support a full set safely, we will say so and suggest a lighter option rather than overloading your hair. Read the candidacy guide.
Hand-tied vs tape-in vs K-tip. What is the difference?
Hand-tied wefts are sewn onto a beaded row, so weight is distributed and the result lies very flat. Tape-ins are adhesive wefts, faster to install but needing regular re-taping. K-tips are individual keratin-bonded strands. Hand-tied is the specialty here because of how seamlessly it sits, especially on fine to medium hair.
Can I still get my hair colored?
Yes, and most guests do both. Your own hair still gets lightened and toned on schedule, and the extension hair is matched to that finished result. If you are blonding and adding length at once, see the balayage and blonding page and mention both at your consultation.
