How to Make Your Blowout Last All Week

A good blowout should not fall flat by the next morning. When ours only lasts a day, it is almost never the styling. It is what happens after you leave the chair. Protect it the right way and a fresh blowout will stay smooth, bouncy, and full for most of the week. Here is how we tell our clients to do it.

01 Keep the water off it

Moisture is what undoes a blowout. Humidity, steam, and sweat all invite your natural texture back in. Skip washing for as long as you comfortably can, and when you shower, actually use a shower cap. In a steamy bathroom, even hair you keep dry can start to swell and lose its shape, so crack a window or run the fan.

02 Sleep on it, do not fight it

How you sleep matters more than people think. A silk or satin pillowcase creates far less friction than cotton, so you wake up with fewer kinks and less frizz. If your hair is long, loosely pile it into a high, soft "pineapple" on top of your head with a gentle scrunchie. You are protecting the body at the roots, not crushing it under your head all night.

03 Refresh with dry shampoo before you need it

The trick with dry shampoo is to use it on day one or two, while your hair still looks clean, not as an emergency rescue on day four. A light mist at the roots keeps oil from ever getting a head start. Spray, wait a minute, then massage it in with your fingertips so there is no white cast.

04 Put the hot tools down

You do not need to re-curl the whole head every morning. Over-styling is what turns a soft blowout tired and stringy by midweek. If a few pieces have dropped, touch up only those with a large-barrel iron and a quick blast of heat protectant first. Less heat, more shape held in reserve.

05 Reach for texture, not more product

By day three or four, a little grit brings a blowout back to life. A whisper of texture spray at the roots rebuilds volume and lets you restyle without adding weight. Heavy oils and creams are the opposite of what you want now. They flatten hair fast, so save them for your ends only.

A blowout is not fragile. It just needs you to keep the water out and the heat down.

Every head of hair holds a style a little differently, and fine, coarse, and color-treated hair each want a slightly different routine. If yours never seems to last, mention it at your next visit. We will build a plan around your hair, your schedule, and the products already on your shelf.
