A big lightening session is a real project. Going several levels brighter, or correcting something that did not go to plan, asks a lot of your hair. The good news is that a lot of the outcome is decided before you ever sit in my chair. Here is how to set your appointment up to succeed.
01 Start with a consultation, not a guess
Before we book a long lightening day, I want to see your hair in person and in natural light. That is when we talk about your history, look at your ends, and agree on a realistic goal and how many sessions it may take. A consultation is a bookable service with us, and it is the single best thing you can do for a big change.
02 Tell me everything your hair has been through
Box color, a drugstore gloss, a keratin treatment, henna, or a friend who bleached your ends last summer. None of it is a confession, all of it is information. Henna and some metallic-salt dyes in particular can react badly with professional lightener, which is why we sometimes take a small test strand first. Honesty here protects your hair.
03 Strengthen for a week or two, do not deep-condition the morning of
In the two weeks before, use a bond builder like Olaplex No. 3 once a week and a good moisturizing mask. Ease off hot tools and tight ponytails. Skip the heavy oil treatment the night before though, since a thick coating can sit on the hair and make lightening lift unevenly.
04 Come with day-old hair
Do not arrive freshly shampooed. Hair washed one or two days earlier has a light layer of natural oil on the scalp, and that buffer makes a long lightening service far more comfortable. What we do not want is buildup, so go easy on dry shampoo, hairspray, and thick styling creams in the days before, and skip them entirely that morning.
05 Bring photos, including the ones you dislike
Save a few inspiration images, and try to include hair that starts near your natural depth. Then show me a look you do not want. Knowing that you hate warmth, or that a heavy line of demarcation bothers you, tells me more than five perfect blondes ever will.
06 Clear your calendar and eat first
Big lightening appointments are commonly three to six hours, and a full correction can run longer or be split across visits. Eat beforehand, bring a charger, wear a dark top you do not love, and do not schedule anything tight afterward. Rushing a lightening service is how good hair goes wrong.
Blonde is not a single appointment. It is a plan, and the prep is part of it.
Do the small things in the weeks before and we get to spend your appointment on the fun part, which is placement, tone, and the finish, instead of undoing surprises.
